I know of at least one previous version and the fact that it wasn't a household word, even in paintball circles make sme think that the JT Splatmaster won't go all that far either, although JT is advertising it a little, which should help.

I do know there Reiner Schaferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11735297279972068471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5844794190793654937.post-69202797410758234922013-01-21T06:02:25.152-08:002013-01-21T06:02:25.152-08:00I know there were a lot of good reviews, but has t...I know there were a lot of good reviews, but has the JT Splatmaster taken off in sales? They might both produce a similar result, but one can be marketed as fast and exciting with less pain, while the other one can only be marketed as slower with less pain. And you are correct with the physics of the energy being spread out over a larger surface. And yes, smaller the inherent strenght of smaller spheres vs larger spheres is also a factor. But then we get into areas that I for one do not totally understand and is probably beyond the scope of simple physics.

Reiner Schaferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11735297279972068471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5844794190793654937.post-72553850010697508472013-01-18T10:54:51.042-08:002013-01-18T10:54:51.042-08:00There's an assumption made in your calculation...There's an assumption made in your calculation that isn't a valid one: You're assuming that two projectiles with the same energy hurt the same when they hit you, and that's not true.

For example, I can throw a golf ball and a tennis ball at you with the same energy, and the golf ball is going to hurt a lot more, because the golf ball is smaller, causing the energy to Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5844794190793654937.post-48216164534110677542013-01-18T08:46:08.367-08:002013-01-18T08:46:08.367-08:00So I tried my hand at the math to see how fast a ....So I tried my hand at the math to see how fast a .68 caliber paintball could be shot for it to have the same kinetic energy as a .50 caliber paintball shot at 300 fps. I used 3.2 grams for the mass of the .68 ball and 1.3 grams for the .50 caliber version.

I worked it out to 148.8 fps using the formula:
KE=.5mass x v^2. If someone could verify that for me, that would be great.<Reiner Schaferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11735297279972068471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5844794190793654937.post-62278580306629861712013-01-17T19:59:24.392-08:002013-01-17T19:59:24.392-08:00Good question. Someone else will have to do the math, but I have a feeling that the 68 caliber velocity would need to be turned down substantially for the energy to be equal to that of a 50 caliber paintball at 300 fps. At the relative close ranges we play paintball at, the 68 cal paintballs would look like they were being lobbed, maybe even so slow that one could duck out of the way often. 50Reiner Schaferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11735297279972068471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5844794190793654937.post-53420450604911809762013-01-17T17:34:56.174-08:002013-01-17T17:34:56.174-08:00Why not just use 68 caliber paintballs and turn do...Why not just use 68 caliber paintballs and turn down the velocity?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
